ENHANCE OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN’S VOCATIONAL SKILL TRAINING AND JOB CREATION

Within the cooperation framework to promote gender equality in Viet Nam, the Korean Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (MOGEF) has provided financial and technical support to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) to implement the model of the vocational training capacity building for Vietnamese women. This model has been implemented since 2011 at the Job Placement Center in Can Tho City, which was replicated at the Job Placement Center in Thai Binh Province in 2013 and continued to be replicated at the Job Placement Center in Quang Nam Province in 2014. Thus, this model has been implemented in 03 provinces and cities representing the North, the Central and the South of Vietnam.

The activities of the model focus on capacity building for the staff of the Job Placement Centers and supporting women in occupational training and finding sustainable employment such as group counseling, mobile job counseling, job festival day for women; 1 One-stop shop counseling model, etc. Besides organizing vocational training courses for women, the project has implemented some pilot models to provide friendly services for female workers, such as the call center to provide tele-counseling on vocational training and employment; Child-care room at the Job Placement Center to take care of the children sent by the mothers who come and register for vocational training and job seeking; Job-café is the place where women can come for counseling on vocational training, job seeking, gender equality. This is also the place for women to exchange experience in their work.
 
          Through project activities, nearly 800 women participated in vocational training courses; nearly 6,100 people (including more than 90% of women) participated in the counseling programs through various forms such as group counseling, mobile job bus and the job festival day for female workers. With the aforementioned specific results, the project has been highly appreciated by various leaderships at central and local levels regarding the effectiveness and practicality in expanding the vocational training and job placement opportunities for women, contributing to boosting the implementation of the National Strategy on Gender Equality for the period 2011-2020.
